On August 4th the UFC on FOX will bring the promotion back to the Staples Center in Los Angeles for the first time in over two years with a light heavyweight main event between former champion Shogun Rua and Brandon Vera. Rua was also the headliner the last time the UFC was at the Staples Center back at UFC 104 on October 24th, 2009. Though he lost a close and controversial decision to Lyoto Machida, he would later defeat Machida to capture UFC gold.

Saturday night marks the third time that the UFC will broadcast on Fox Nationally with the UFC on FOX 3.  We’ve already looked at the main event, so today this time; we’re going to look at the heavyweight slugfest on the card.  There are few fights in this sport where you know beforehand what you’re going to get.  This time, you know.  When Barry and Johnson step into the cage, two men will slug it out until one man is separated from his consciousness.

In the first part of 2010 Pascal Krauss could be found atop many “Top Prospects” list and with a 9-0 record and all of his wins coming by way of submission or knockout, the young 22 year-old German appeared to be a sure lock as the best fighter to not fight inside the octagon. Just over a week ago Brock Lesnar retired from MMA after being systematically taken apart by Alistair Overeem inside the first round. Brazilian domination is a simple phrase to explain the championship picture in the UFC right now. At Saturday’s UFC on FOX, Junior dos Santos added to the impressive list of Brazilian born champions in the UFC with his stunning 1st round TKO of former champion, Cain Velasquez. While some fans were not happy with the 64 seconds of an hour-long program, dos Santos was emotional after the victory, shedding tears before and during his post-fight interview.

The events just keep coming. Following the Ultimate Fighting Championships network debut with last weeks UFC on FOX they’ll hit PPV TV for Saturdays UFC 139 from San Jose, California. Dana White only did one video blog last week but he promises (sort of) to do more than that during the current fight week.

How monumental was UFC on Fox 1?  It was so monumental that my 5-year-old was allowed to stay up and watch “the fights”.  While she is very aware that daddy is a big fight fan she is also aware that she isn’t allowed to stay up and watch them. Not on this Saturday.
