Strikeforce Needs to Listen to Social Networks
Social networks like Twitter and Facebook play a major part in MMA community. With every Major MMA website on them and many of the promotions top figures there too, it’s basically like a one stop shop for all things MMA.
The MMA community on these social networks is a very powerful tool that can influence the masses and even change things. That was evident this week when Dana White said he was “re-thinking” the possibility of a third fight between Brock Lesnar vs. Frank Mir, because fans on twitter were not happy with the fight. Even though just days before White had stated a third fight between Lesnar and Mir made a lot of sense.
Last night the MMA community was all a buzz as Strikeforce Challengers Series 12 was live on Showtime. Problem here was they weren’t talking so much about the fights, but the group attempting to call the fights.
Headed by Mauro Ranallo, the three-man team is made up with the combination of either Gus Johnson and Frank Shamrock or Stephen Quadros and Pat Miletich. They have been the target of the MMA Community for some time now on these social networks.
They have been called “idiots”, “stupid” and “atrocious” just to name a few, and fans have even suggested watching the fights on mute. As one fan on twitter stated last night “The fighters of Strikeforce deserve better announcers” and with all this negative publicity out there, it’s hard to argue that statement.
Though they are actually “employeed” by the network, Scott Coker would be best served by taking a page from Dana White here and listen to the social networks that are talking so horribly about the announcers promoting his product. If fans are muting the fights or not even watching because of the announcers, it is doing nothing but hurting your product and more importantly, your bottom line.
With guys like Bas Rutten and Michael Schiavello out there, it’s not like Strikeforce doesn’t have other options.
