Tito Ortiz Strikes again, Off Bellator PPV
If you picked Tito Ortiz over Quinton Jackson in your Bellator PPV Injury pool you can now officially go and collect your winnings. The breaking news just a week away from the promotions first-ever PPV was first reported by Ariel Helwani at MMAFighting.com.
Stepping out of retirement Tito Ortiz jumped ship to join Rampage, his once training partner, at Bellator. The two former champions were pitted against each other as the headliner for the #2 MMA promotions first venture in the Pay Per View arena.
The moved seemed odd considering the injury track record Tito Ortiz and not to mention completely against the companies model that got them to this point.
As of right now everything seems to be up in the air but thankfully Bellator did surround the MMA veterans with an incredible cast of homegrown talent.
What could now end up being the new main event is the highly anticipated rematch between Lightweight champion Michael Chandler and the man he bet for that title, Eddie Alvarez. The card also features two other title fights (featherweight & light heavyweight), the season 9 heavyweight tournament final along the Fight Master finale.
Speculation is rampant but Bellator has announced a Press Conference for later today we should get all the answers.
Stay tuned.
[Update from the Bellator press conference:]
Tito Ortiz has a fractured Neck supposedly unrelated to his previous neck injuries and the bout has been completely scrapped. Ortiz will be out for 4 to 8 months but given his prior neck issues it would seem the latter would be the best case scenario. As for Rampage Jackson, Bellator CEO Bjorn Rebney hopes to have him make his promotional debut within the next month.
Michael Chandler vs. Eddie Alvarez will now headline the fight card, BUT the card will now be FREE on SPIKE. The Fight Master Finale between Joe Riggs and Mike Bronzoulis will be moved up from the prelims to complete the five bout Bellator 106 main card. The Bellator 106 preliminary card will stream live on SPIKE.com.
