Breaking News: Jens Pulver “announces” future with WEC
On today special edition of Fist-Ta-Cuff Radio Jens Pulver made an announcement regarding his MMA future. The Former UFC Lightweight and WEC Featherweight champ will no longer be fighting. If you think that was the big news you’d only be half right there as Lil Evil had one more ball to drop. Starting in June (July at the latest) Pulver will be replacing Frank Mir as WEC commentator for all their events. Pulver is not a stranger to the commentors spot having did locals shows plus some of the early UFC events too.
Pulver (22-13-1) recently lost to Javier Vazquez at WEC 47 by Armbar submission in the first round. Following the lost Pulver talked about not wanting to put his fans through this anymore, basically retiring without officially saying it. Pulver returned to the UFC in 2006 losing to then no name Joe Lauzon by knockout in the first round. He went on to coach season 5 of the Ultimate fighter along side bitter rival BJ Penn, the two fought at shows end with Pulver losing by second round submission. He then dropped weight and moved over to WEC where he won his debut against Cub Swanson with a slick anaconda choke in the first round. He was then given a title shot against the face of the WEC Urijah Faber at WEC 34 where the two put on a great five round war that Faber won by Unanimous decision. Looking back that was Pulvers last gasp, his next 4 fights all ended in the first round (1 TKO, 3 submissions).
Jens Pulver is a great embassador for the sport on Mixed Martial Arts and it will be great for the sport and fans to have him talking MMA during every WEC event now.
