Ultimate Fight Night 22 gets a poster and main events

UFC 22 236x300 Ultimate Fight Night 22 gets a poster and main eventsThe onslaught of announced fights by the UFC continued today with the announcement of the main event and co-main for UFN 22, plus unveiling the event poster (pictured). The co-main event will be the UFC 115 rematch between Mac Danzig (19-8-1) and Matt Wiman (12-5). The night will then be closed out with main event between middleweight’s Demian Maia (12-2) and Alan Belcher (15-5).

The rematch between Danzig and Wiman stems from a controversial submission stoppage by referee Yves Lavigne when Danzig had not tapped and was still conscious. Danzig was obviously not happy with the call / lose, which was his four in the last five fights. Though Dana White and the UFC gave him immediate rematch, Danzig is likely in a must win fight against a guy that caught him in a choke.

The main event features a middleweight showdown between two fighters with champ Anderson Silva on their mind. Belcher is 4-1 in his last 5 fights and following his submission victory over Patrick cote called out the champ.  A victor over Maia will put Belcher one fight, maybe even next in line for title shot against Silva.

Maia is the last person to face the champ at UFC 112, where he lost a unanimous decision in what can only be called, the Anderson Silva way. Maia has lost two of his last three fights after winning his first five UFC fights. The Brazilian desperately needs a win to get back on track in the middleweight division.

Ultimate fight night 22 will take place in the Frank Erwin Special Events Center on the campus of the University of Texas in Austin on Wednesday September 15th. The event will be shown on Spike and be the lead in for the new season of the Ultimate Fighter, which features Georges St.-Pierre and Josh Koscheck as coaches.
