WEC 51 Ultimate Matchmaking

WEC 51 is shaping up to be another great card by the promotion this September. The matchmaker really seemed to listen to the fans, giving them some of the best possible matchups on every card and WEC 51 is no different. WEC 51 will be held at the 1st bank Center in Broomfield Colorado on September 30th 2010.

The rumored matchups so far include many great fights and promise fireworks from the top to the bottom of the card. First up is the title shot 17-1 Jose Aldo who has destroyed every Featherweight in the WEC he has faced and has seemed invincible in the cage to most WEC fans, will face the #2 featherweight and a new challenge in 11-4 Manny Gamburyan. Manny posses a strong challenge to Jose Aldo with his Judo game and heavy hands coming off a big 1st round Knockout victory over Mike Thomas Brown. This fight could be a war both standing and on the Mat and Jose looks to bring his razor sharp and powerful striking and great take down defense to a worthy competitor. Jose Aldo is a Nova União Brazilian Jiu Jitsu black belt and has a seriously underrated ground game so even if Manny gets him to the ground it will still be a fight.

Urjiah Faber (23-4 MMA) is scheduled to make his Bantamweight debut against Takeya Mizugaki (13-4 MMA) but this may still be off due to a recent knee injury for Faber . If this fight falls through it will be a very tough fight for both Faber and Mizugaki who both are looking to climb the ladder to a shot at the Bantamweight belt. Also Jamie Varner (16-3-1 MMA) vs. Donald Cerrone (11-3) was in the works but Jamie and his management team is looking for a title shot against Ben Henderson in Arizona because they feel he won his last fight Fan favorite, MMA veteran, and Twitter junkie Miguel Torres (37-3 MMA) is set to get back into the win column when he faces a tough fight with Charlie Valencia (12-5 MMA).

Who could forget Korean zombie (10-2) vs. Leonard Garcia (14-5) it was one of the most talked about fights this year that did wonders for the WEC and their fan base and will defiantly be up for fight of the year at the MMA awards.  Both Fighters are on this card with tough competition looking to (if they both win) possibly set the re-match in stone. Chan Sung Jung faces TUF star George Roop (10-6 MMA) who is a good match for him to stay in the spotlight or build another fighter in Roop closer to contention. Leonard Garcia faces very tough competition in Mark Hominick (18-8) who is a UFC veteran and is coming off a very impressive win over a rising WEC star in Yves Jabouin (14-6 MMA). That fight was very similar to the Korean Zombie vs. Garcia Fight till the late second round stoppage due to strikes from mount.

The WEC is always looking to make the fans happy with the best possible match making out there. Please take note that the fight card may have some changes or additions and nothing is set in stone yet, but we can only hope it unfolds the way we see it so far.
