November Candy: Fight’s Under the Radar this Month

Chris Camozzi Fights in November against Lorenz LarkinTonight is the last night before the calendar changes to the month of November, commonly known as Halloween. It’s the night kids (young and old) dress up as their favorite whatever and fill their pillow cases up with candy. The sugar highs that will be induced from said candy will last well into November.

As effects begin to wear off during the first weekend of the month, MMA fans will begin their own feast of great MMA action. Yes it wasn’t the greatest segways ever but the fact of the matter is that it’s true, November is stacked with great MMA events and individual fights. Some of the biggest names in Mixed Martial Arts will step into the cage this month and several title will be on the line.

With all this star-studded action taking place there are a few fight’s that are perhaps getting overlooked. These hidden gems will not have their faces on the posters, get top billing or any pre-fight hype but come fight night you’ll not want to miss them.

Bellator 106 (11/2/13)

The once inaugural Bellator PPV lost its so-called main event and thus became a free event of Spike TV. Despite the loss of Tito Ortiz vs Rampage Jackson, the card is still headlined by three title fights and the Fight Master Finale. Kicking off the night’s main card though is the featherweight bout between Mike Richman and Akop Stepanyan that has “barn burning” written all over it. Both are strikers but their styles are different, which should bring some exciting exchanges along with a chess match of range. Richman vs. Stepanyan is a worthy opening act to the Bellator 106 main card.

UFC Fight Night 31 (11/6/13)

Not only did the UFC bring back the Fight Nights, they also brought the “Fight for the Troops” event back as well. The top of the fight card has seem some change and overall the name value might not jump out at you but there are two preliminary bouts that will have fans talking around the water cooler the next day. Lightweights Bobby Green and James Krause are coming off impressive UFC debuts and are each riding lengthy winning streaks. Standing or on the mat these guys are finishers so one of their streaks are going to be snapped. Further down the card is a middleweight fight between Chris Camozzi and Lorenz Larkin that should be much higher on these fight card. The gritting former Ultimate Fighter alum was clearly over-matched in his last bout but will bring the fight to his opponent. The fun to watch Larkin lost a close decision in his UFC debut after beginning his MMA career with 13 straight wins.

UFC Fight Night 32 11/9/13

Overall this Brazilian card has sort of been overlooked as it’s three days after the fight for the troops event and a week before the 20th anniversary UFC 167 event. aside from the main event, the welterweight clash between Brandon Thatch and Paulo Thiago is likely the second best fight on the card. Thatch continued his first round finishing was in his UFC debut and raised more than a few eyebrows in the process. for his second trip to the Octagon he’ll be taking a big step up in competition, not to mention enter some hostile territory. With his countrymen cheering for him, the Brazilian Thiago will be making his 11th UFC appearance. The Veteran has only been stopped once and the test, along with the action that will commence is well worth the watch.

UFC 167 11/16/13

The UFC put a lot of star power on their 20th anniversary card, including two of the promotions biggest PPV draws (Georges St. Pierre and Chael Sonnen). On the preliminary card though is a welterweight bout between Brian Ebersole and Rick Story that could be bloodbath of the night. Both are coming off recent losses and for Ebersole the defeat snapped an 11 fight winning streak. A quick finish could happen here but the likely outcome here is 15 minutes of tense hard-fought action and the early fight of the Night candidate heading into the PPV.

Been an MMA fan since TUF season one (play catch up all the time) and the obsession started to grow like a weed and as the sport grows so does the love for the sport. I’m a jack of all trades, a very organized person that rides an emotional roller coaster daily.
