MMAThe MMA Calendar has turned to the month of October and the end of the year is within our sights. The final quarter of the year is not only filled with holidays but it also typically contains some of the best MMA action the year has to offer. October has plenty of fights, which is always great, but this month has a handful of fights that you do not want to miss.

UFC on FX 5 [10-3-12]

Travis Browne vs. Antonio Silva – For the second UFC event in a row the heavyweights will headline a card. Travis Browne is looking to stay undefeated and step into the upper half of the UFC heavyweight division. Standing in his way is the dangerous and big Antonio Silva, who will be looking for his first UFC victory as well as snap a two fight losing streak.

Jussier da Silva vs. John Dodson – The UFC flyweight division just crowned it first ever champion and the winner between Jussier da Silva and John Dodson will likely have earned a shot at that belt. Da Silva is making his promotional debut but comes in on a five fight winning streak. After winning The Ultimate Fighter 14 Dodson dropped back down to flyweight and defeated Tim Elliot by unanimous decision back in May.

ONE FC 6 [10-6-12]

Shinya Aoki vs. Arnaud Lepont – Asia’s ONE FC has put on some solid events and their latest is no different as long time DREAM lightweight champion Shinya Aoki will make his ONE FC debut against Arnaud Lepont. Aoki is coming off a loss in Bellator debut against Eddie Alvarez but has a favorable matchup with Frenchmen.

Bellator 76 [10-12-12]

Eddie Alvarez vs. Patricky Freire – Eddie Alvarez bounced back from losing the Bellator lightweight champion with a TKO win over Shinya Aoki. In what could end up being his last Bellator appearance, Alvarez will have his hands full against Patricky Freire. The “pitbull” has been sputtering recently, losing two of his last three but a win over the former champ would erase all that.

UFC 153 [10-13-12]

Anderson Silva vs. Stephan Bonnar – The promo says when these two-step into the cage you’re going to get one of two things, “a spectacular knockout or a historic upset”. It’s hard to argue with those results and who would complain if either was to happen. The middleweight champion Anderson Silva is moving up to light heavyweight for this bout as he and Stephan Bonnar stepped up for this fight on short notice.

Antonio Rodrigo Nogueira vs. Dave Herman – Another fight put together later after all the injuries hit UFC 153. Both fighters are coming off defeats but what makes this interesting is how Antonio Rodrigo Nogueira comes back from that brutal right arm break suffered last December.

Joseph Henle MMA

MFC 35 [10-26-12]

Joseph Henle vs. Elvis Mutapcic – Maximum Fighting Championship returns at the end of the month with a middleweight title fight between Joseph Henle and Elvis Mutapcic. Both fighters are coming off wins at MFC 34 that earned them a shot at the vacant title and this two will headline MFC 35. Henle was a part of The Ultimate Fighter season 11 and is undefeated heading into his fight professional title fight.

Bellator 78 [10-26-12]

Lyman Good vs. Michail Tsarev – After winning their respective quarterfinal welterweight tournament bouts at Bellator 74, Lyman Good and Michail Tsarev will face off in the semifinals. This bout is a contrast in styles that will be won by the fighter that can get the fight where he wants it. The tougher of the two semifinal bouts, the winner will enter the tournament finals as the favorite to earn the title shot.

There you have it, eight MMA bouts this month that you are not going to what to miss.

My brain child is MMAValor, something I had wanted to do for a long time and finally it’s here. Been an MMA fan since TUF season one (play catch up all the time) and the obsession started to grow like a weed and as the sport grows so does the love for the sport. I’m a jack of all trades, a very organized person that rides an emotional roller coaster daily.

  1. Fleek says:

da Silva vs. Dodson is going to be a barn burner as is Freire/Alvarez. Of the fights listed, those are the only 2 I’m overly excited about.

  2. I agree those two stand out above the others. The other three UFC fights are more interested to see how they play out with Big Nog and his arm, Bonnar taking on Silva and possibly the final UFC bout for Bigfoot. LOL
