Joe Stevenson drops his fifth Straight at RFA 3
After a year out of action former UFC fighter Joe Stevenson returned last night in the main event of Resurrection Fighting Alliance 3 against Dakota Cochrane. The winner of the Ultimate Fighter season 2 was also making his return to the lightweight division after a failed attempt at featherweight in his last UFC bout.
Joe Stevenson (31-15) needed a win in the worse way possible but so did his opponent. Dakota Cochrane (12-3) came into the fight looking to snap a two fight losing streak and put the loss to James Vick in The Ultimate Fighter Live elimination round.
Even though Joe Stevenson secured a takedown in the opening round against Cochrane, it came after being out struck and didn’t last long. Cochrane would quickly reverse the position and finish the round with some brutal ground and pound. Things would get worse for Stevenson in round two as Cochrane opened the round aggressively, dropping “Joe Daddy” with a knee to the midsection to set up the rear-naked choke submission.
At just 64 seconds into the second round, Dakota Cochrane had snapped his losing streak and extended the losing streak to five for Joe Stevenson.
With all the injuries the UFC is suffering recently the win from Cochrane over a former UFC star could put him on the radar as a late replacement. Having now lost five in a row and seven of his last nine fights, Joe Stevenson finds himself in the unfortunate position of being in a career free fall and what’s next for him is muddy at best.
