WEC News: Ratcliff hurt, Downes steps in
Ed “9mm” Ratcliff (7-2MMA) was forced out of WEC 49 on the 20th of this month for undisclosed reasons forcing a scramble from top WEC executives to find someone available to fight in Canada that’s ready to step up to the plate with one of the top caliber 155er’s the WEC has to offer. The hometown kid Chris Horodecki (14-2 MMA) and Ed were coming off top Losses and looked to make a rebound with a good impression in Canada to put them right back into the mix.
At first the WEC was looking at Top Canadian fighters to pull from another organization but fights were inked and options were becoming slim. The released statement from Reed Harris was the only info we as fans received about one of the best fights on the card;
“I wanna say sorry to all the fans, family, and friends for having to pull out on such late notice. Even more importantly I wanna apologize to Chris Horodecki for going thru all of that hard work and not getting the final release u deserve. I wish u the best. Sorry everyone.!!!!!!“
In steps Danny “Boy” Downes (6-0 MMA) who Trains with the likes of Pat Barry, Anthony Pettis, and Duke Rufus looks to make some new fans and continue his vicious TKO filled record (5 of 6 fights). Downes last fight was in April for King of the Cage, but trains with some of the best fighters in the world and I am sure will be out for a hometown upset. If this fight stays standing for a bit so fans will quickly see where Horodecki has/has not improved and how the newcomer fares with a top 5 lightweight in Canada.
