Alan Belcher out against Demian Maia
The injuries continue and this time it hits a main event fighter. Alan Belcher via twitter announced that he has been forced out of his fight with Demian Maia at Ultimate Fight Night 22 on September 15 with an eye injury.
“While I was in Brazil I started losing my vision in my right eye. I saw a Dr that told me to go back to us immediately. My friend/surgeon from biloxi got me an emergency surgery scheduled in Alabama now just trying to recover. No contact for 6 weeks. Sorry to my trainers. Sorry to ufc & demian Maia, I know he has been training specifically for me. Sorry to my fans as well. As long as I get released from dr I will try to make ufn 22 to see my fans and watch the fights”
Belcher is coming off two wins in a row and has been calling out the middleweight champ Anderson Silva during that time. This match up was likely going to determine the next in line to the middleweight title after Vitor Belfort finally get his shot. Instead the UFC will now have to find a suitable replacement for Belcher and one that can step into a main event spot as well.
Belcher also issued a video along with his statement on twitter that appears to be taken right after the surgery. We wish Belcher a speedy and more importantly a complete recovery. Stay tuned as more information on Belcher’s recovery and who the UFC gets as a replacement to face Demian Maia.
