UFC 156 Main card nearly complete, Tickets on Sale this week
The Mandalay Bay Events Center on Saturday, February 2nd will be host to UFC 156 on Super Bowl weekend. Holding a big Pay Per View event in Las Vegas, Nevada the day before the Super Bowl has become a tradition for the UFC and something the fans look forward to each year.
The UFC 156 main card is officially nearly completed and tickets for the event go on sale this week. Headlining the card will be the long-awaited featherweight superfight between current UFC featherweight champion Jose Aldo taking on the former UFC lightweight champion Frankie Edgar. Prior to an injury to Aldo, these two were originally schedule to fight on October 13th in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil at UFC 153. Even when Edgar was defending his lightweight title fans were talking about him stepping down in weight to face Aldo and now they get what they’ve been clamoring for at UFC 156.
Also on the cad will be former Strikeforce heavyweight champion Alistair Overeem, returning to action after a yearlong suspension to face Antonio “Bigfoot” Silva. These two were supposed to meet in the Strikeforce heavyweight Grand Prix until the eventual winner Daniel Cormier stepped in for Overeem. Since he is coming off suspension Overeem will have to be approved and licensed by the Nevada State Athletic commission prior to participating at UFC 156.
Sticking with the former champions theme will be the former light heavyweight champion Rashad Evans coming back from a long break to take on Antonio Rogerio “Lil Nog” Nogueira. The last time Evans stepped into the octagon was for his unanimous decision loss to the current champion Jon Jones at UFC 145 back in April. Rounding out the four official UFC 156 bouts is a welterweight clash between Jon Fitch and Demian Maia that should put the winner near the top of the stacked 170-pound division.
