This weekend was dominated by the UFC 149 fight card in Calgary and whether you liked it or not the event generated a lot of buzz in the MMA world. But that’s not the only thing going on in MMA this week. Friday night saw more Bellator summer series action with Bellator 72 and next weekend will be the Invicta FC 2 fight card.
Tonight UFC 149 was one of those nights; some will call it an off-night while others will refer to it as crap. While the final four fights couldn’t live up to the rest of the card, UFC 149 did have its moments and a few of the fighters were rewarded for them.
The Ultimate Fighting Championship has finally made it to Calgary with tonight’s UFC 149 in the Saddledome. The card has seen move change than a vending machine but despite all this turmoil the 11 bout fight card that will go down tonight is a true testament to the depth of the UFC roster.
Tomorrows UFC 149 has gone through massive changes from top to bottom and Canadian welterweight Chris Clements was one of the many replacement fighters. After Thiago Alves got injured he stepped in to face Siyar Bahadurzada on the UFC 149 main card. You would be seeing that exciting bout though as Bahadurzada would get injured and be replaced by Matt Riddle to complete to overhaul.
UFC 149 seemed to be such a cursed fight card but that all changed (hopefully) as all 24 fighters easily made weight today in Calgary. The injuries piled up and the changes were a plenty on the UFC 149 fight card, but the fighters that survived to make on the final card appear ready to go.
Saturday’s UFC 149 is probably the most changed UFC fight card in recent history. Between all the injuries and shuffling around, the card has seen nearly every fight different from originally announced including the loss of the featherweight title fight between Jose Aldo and Eric Koch. Surprisingly though the UFC pulled it all together and UFC 149 has transformed into a solid fight card.
Coming up this Saturday, July 21, the UFC will break new ground as UFC 149: Faber vs. Barao will go down inside the Scotiabank Saddledome in Calgary, Alberta, Canada for the first time ever. Unfortunately, for many fight fans, from the time this fight card was announced until last week, there have been a total of eleven fights rearranged, added or moved from the card entirely. With just a few days until fight night, let’s take a look at the Main Card and see how it breaks down.
It seems like we get a card like UFC 149 every year, where the injuries pile up and the card shuffles around to the point of ridiculousness. I must say though, the UFC managed to put together a great batch of match-ups from the players left healthy enough to fight, and a truly intriguing main event. Just because the roster is injured doesn’t mean your bankroll has to suffer a setback though, so let’s make some cash together.
