Frank Mir UFC on FOX 7There isn’t a UFC event this weekend but the promotion has stayed busy cranking out fight announcements at an incredible rate. The UFC has events four events planned for August and the flood gates have opened upon these fight cards.

August 3rd – UFC 163: Aldo vs. Pettis (Rio de Janeiro, Brazil)

Vinny Magalhaes vs. Anthony Perosh: Back from a toe injury that removed him for UFC on FX 6, Anthony Perosh will take on Vinny Magalhaes in Brazil. Both fighters are coming off loses, both are BJJ Black Belts and both need a win.

Thales Leites vs. Tom Watson: Welcome back to the UFC for Thales Leites! The Brazilian earned his way back into the Octagon with 6-1 since leaving the UFC. He’ll be welcoming Tom Watson to his backyard while looking to a UFC victory for the first time since 2008. Watson is coming off his first career UFC win earlier this year over Stanislav Nedkov.

Clint Hester vs. Cezar Ferreira: TUF 17 fighter Clint Hester will make his second UFC appearance against The Ultimate Fighter: Brazil winner Cezar Ferreira. This bout is the classic grappler vs. striker fight that will all come down to whomever controls where the fights plays out.

August 17th – UFC on FOX Sports 1: TBA (Boston, Massachusetts)

Uriah Hall vs. Nick Ring: Coming off a disappointing performance in the TUF 17 finale, Uriah Hall will take on fellow Ultimate fighter alum, Nick Ring. Both are coming off a loss but all the pressure will be on the back of Hall in this matchup.

Conor McGregor vs. Andy Ogle: Anytime Andy Ogle fights you could label it heart vs. talent but this match-up really is just that. Conor McGregor is coming off a first round knockout of Marcus Brimage in his UFC debut and has also won his last nine fights. Ogle is coming off a unanimous decision over the once top prospect Josh Grispi but this fight is a serious step up in competition.

August 28th – UFC on FOX 1: Condit vs. Kampmann II (Indianapolis, Indiana)

Carlos Condit vs. Martin Kampmann: The main event for the second fight card on FOX Sports 1 will feature a rematch between Carlos Condit and Martin Kampmann is a 5 round non-title fight. Condit lost by split decision in their first meeting back in 2009 and if these welterweights want to get back in the title hunt a win here is a must.

August 31st – UFC 164 (Milwaukee, Wisconsin)

Soa Palelei vs. Nikita Krylov: Palelei was set to make his UFC return at UFC 161 but was left without an opponent when Stipe Miocic moved up the card to face Roy Nelson. Riding an eight fight winning streak, Palelei will be looking for his first UFC when he takes on promotional newcomer Nikita Krylov. The undefeated Ukrainian is no step down in competition for Palelei as he’s 14-0 with 14 finishes.

fight announcements - Josh Barnett vs Frank Mir

Josh Barnett

Josh Barnett vs. Frank Mir: A few years late but yes this heavyweight dream fight between former UFC champions is finally going to happen. It’s been 11 years since Josh Barnett fought in the UFC and “The Warmaster” did not leave on good terms. It took a while but the deal got done and Barnett will make his return against Mir. Frank Mir has lost two in a row and is coming off a loss to Daniel Cormier, who also holds a win over Barnett. Mir has always been known as one of the best submission heavyweights in the world and will put his skill against the catch wrestling of Barnett on the UFC 164 main card.

With all these cards taking place in one month you can expect more fight announcements and most likely a few changes as well.
