UFC 136 Fight Bonuses

Two title fights anchored the UFC 136 fight card but it was the three fights leading up to the title fights that stole the show. Besides stealing the show, they also stole two of the three “Fight Night Bonuses” that were each worth 75k.

After a long layoff, Chael Sonnen looked impressive and relentless as he submitted “The All-American” Brian Stann with an arm triangle. The Submission was Sonnen’s first in the UFC and only his fourth overall, but the arm triangle wasn’t the best at UFC 136. That honor went to Joe Lauzon and his first round rear naked choke submission of the red-hot Melvin Guillard. The upset win earned Lauzon his 7th bonus (3 Fight of the Night, 4 Sub of the Night) in the UFC and remarkably 6th in a row.

The rematch between Nam Phan and Leonard Garcia was the early favorite for the fight of the night bonus and come fight time, the two did not disappoint. Both fighters continued where he left off in their first fight, throwing tons of strikes and standing toe to toe. Great thing about this fight, besides the 15 minutes of action was that the judges actually got it right this time.

The title fights didn’t get completely shutout though; Frankie Edgar retained his lightweight title, avenged his loss to Gray Maynard and walked away with the knockout of the night. The fight started out similar to their first fight as Maynard rocked the champ twice in the first round. The rest of the fight was all Edgar and the right hand of the champion stopped Maynard and handed him his first career defeat.

Each fighter at UFC 136 received $75,000 on top of their salary.
