Mike Guymon to Headline BAMMA USA’s Badbeat 5 on March 16

| March 6, 2012 | Reply

Southern California’s BAMMA USA is returning to the Commerce Casino on March 16th with “Badbeat 5”. Headlining the card will be a main event between the UFC veteran Mike “Joker” Guymon and Chris “The Lightning” Leyva. Another UFC Veteran, Gabe “Godzilla” Ruediger will fight in the night’s co-main event against Scott “KO” Catlin.

Guymon hasn’t fought since January of last year when he lost to Damarques Johnson via body triangle. Coming out of a 14 month retirement, Guymon has dropped to a lower weight class (lightweight) and looks to return to the old style of fighting against his opponent, Leyva.

“I’ll let my fighting do the talking but it will be that old me out there,” said Guymon in a recent interview. “I’ll just look across, handle business and do it quite tenaciously. I know how strong I am. I know where my cardio is. My body has adjusted well to this drop in weight, and I’m really looking forward to it.”

Leyva has won eight of his last ten fights stringing together an eight fight win streak including five technical knockout victories. He lost his last fight against current UFC lightweight Tim Means and is looking to get back on track against Guymon.

Ruediger was originally scheduled to appear in the Badbeat 4 main event fight however his opponent was injured the day of the weigh-ins and was unable to compete. Now, Ruediger will get his chance to fight in front of his hometown and redeem himself from his previous losses. His opponent (Catlin) holds a victory over TUF 13 winner Tony Ferguson and is coming off a victory in his last fight.

Doors for Badbeat 5 open at 6:00 PM, with the preliminary card beginning at 7:00 PM and the main card fights start at 9:00 PM. Tickets for the event cost $50.00, $75.00, $100.00, $150.00 and $750.00 for a VIP package including four seats and backstage access. Tickets are nearly sold out and may be purchased online till midnight on March 15, 2012 or by calling 714-912-8822. Additionally, in partnership with LiveStream, the fights will air live on www.BadbeatMMA.com.
