Marcos Galvao and Luis Nogueira square off to crown next #1 Contender at Bellator 73

| August 23, 2012 | Reply

The Multi-time BJJ champion Marcos Galvao and rising star Luis Nogueira will finish out the Bellator 2012 Summer Series as they each look to claim the next spot in line for a shot at the Bantamweight Championship at Bellator 73. The fight will take place this Friday August 24th at Harrah’s Tunica Hotel and Casino in Tunica Resorts, MS.

Galvao makes his sixth appearance for Bellator, having beaten Ed West and Travis Marx to make it to the finals of the Bantamweight tournament. The former five time National Champion and two-time World Champion will look to make the most of his first trip to the finals, falling just short in his quest during the Season 5 Bantamweight tournament, falling just short after a close split decision loss to Alexis Villa.

Having already improved upon this first attempt in Bellator’s tournament format, Nogueira took out Villa and Nakamura to earn the final spot in the finals. After earning his spot in the Season 5 tournament via his Bellator debut, Nogueira would be knocked out early losing to Ed West in the opening round. After losing in his 5th pro fight to eventual Bellator Bantamweight champion, Eduardo Dantas, ” Betao” would win his next 9 out of 10 fights, with the majority coming in his native Brazil.

Galvao, with his impressive and respected ground game, will look to put the pressure on his opponent, wanting to put this fight on the ground as quick as possible. Nogueira has shown that he is comfortable wherever the fight may go, but with his opponents experience on the ground, Nogueira might have a better chance in the stand up.

The winner of the fight will take on Dantas at a later date. The Bellator 73 Main card will air on MTV2 starting at 8pm EST.
