TUF 16 Premiere 285x200 #1 Pick Falls at Ep. 3 of The Ultimate Fighter: Team Carwin vs. Team NelsonShane Carwin and Team Carwin took the opening bout and now have control of the fight picks heading into this week episode of The Ultimate Fighter. Looking to keep that control, Team Carwin looked to their #1 pick Sam Alvey to keep the momentum going as he faced Team Nelson’s Joey Rivera.

Before the two fought inside the Octagon they had to make it through a couple of nights inside the house, avoiding the pranks and fighters looking to stir up trouble. Continuing from last week, Team Carwin fighter Matt Secor is still going out of his way to rub others in the house the wrong way. He was over shadowed this week though because Nic Herron-Webb couldn’t sleep and was looking for camera time as he decided played pool, whistling and jump roping as everyone else was sleeping.

It wouldn’t be The Ultimate Fighter unless there a prank going on in the house. Team Nelson decided to take Sam Alvey’s mattress outside and float it on top of the pool. Well Alvey didn’t really care and plays it off but his teammate Igor Araujo was not too happy.

At weigh-ins “Smilin” Sam Alvey turned into “Spartan” Sam Alvey, that was until his Spartan undies weighed too much and he had to drop them behind a white towel.

Fight Time: Sam Alvey vs. Joey Rivera

Round One: Rivera comes out throwing head kicks right away and nearly lands a clean one with the first Strike of the fight. Rivera gets an easy takedown and moves to the back as Alvey tries to get back to his feet. Rivera remains in control and attempts multiple submissions that Alvey is forced to defend. The round though would end with Alvey doing damage via ground and pound after Rivera went for a standing guillotine that Alvey was able to escape from.

Round Two: Alvey looks to be the fresher of the two fighters as the round begins. Alvey fails at a takedown and after an exchange; Rivera successfully gets the fight to the ground. He does nothing there though and Alvey gets back up. With seconds left in the round Alvey finally gets a takedown but runs out of time.

The Judges have it (19-19, 20-18, 20-18) for a Majority Decision for Joey Rivera of Team Nelson. Tune into next week’s episode of The Ultimate Fighter for more drama, some pranks and maybe even a fight or two.
