This week’s MMA Link Club continues where we left off last week, recapping some of last week’s events as well as hitting on the action from this past weekend. These past couple weeks have been wall to wall Mixed Martial Arts, but we got you covered.
Some things just aren’t meant to be and last night’s Bellator 75 main event was proof of that. The third time was not the charm for Bellator and the Eric Prindle versus Thiago Santos heavyweight bout as their bizarre trilogy has hopefully come to an end.
A day after the current Bellator heavyweight champion Cole Konrad surprisingly announced his retirement from the sport; the promotion introduced the finalized field for their season 7 heavyweight tournament.
Bellator 70 closes out the sixth season for the promotion with a title fight, tournament final as well as the last welterweight semifinal bout. From inside the Ernest N. Morial Convention Center in New Orleans, Louisiana the main card was kicked off on MTV2 and Spike.com with hometown favorite and UFC veteran, Rich Clementi.
Fans of Bellator heavyweight Eric Prindle who were hoping to finally see him fight at Friday’s Brllator 65, will once again have to wait. The massive fighter tweeted out yesterday that he was now fighting on May 25th and it was later confirmed he had suffered a hand injury. For those counting this marks the third time during Bellator’s sixth season that a bout featuring Prindle has either been pushed back or scrapped.
What a mess the season five heavyweight tournament has turned out to be. It all started with eight heavyweights with Eric Prindle and Thiago Santos emerging as the finalists. With a shot at the heavyweight crown, the two fought at Bellator 59 on November 26th, effectively ruining the tournament.
Last week kicked off the sixth season for Bellator Fighting Championship with the start of a new featherweight tournament as well as a title fight. At Tonight’s Bellator 61 it’s the middleweight’s taking center stage as eight fighters will begin their journey towards a title shot.
Bellator will kick off its Middleweight Tournament at tonight’s Bellator 61 from the Orleans Room Orleans Room at Horseshoe Riverdome in Bossier City, La. The Main Event will feature Miguel Falcao make his Bellator debut as he takes on Norman Paraisy.
