Bellator 70 closes out the sixth season for the promotion with a title fight, tournament final as well as the last welterweight semifinal bout. From inside the Ernest N. Morial Convention Center in New Orleans, Louisiana the main card was kicked off on MTV2 and with hometown favorite and UFC veteran, Rich Clementi.

Clementi was fighting a much younger fighter in Derek Campos, who was hoping to spoil the party for the Louisiana native. Clementi was having none of it though and pulled off a quick submission win via Guillotine. For the veteran of 65 professional MMA fights, Clementi collected his 26th career submission, yet surprisingly it was his first via guillotine.

The night co-main event saw Bellator’s heavyweight champion Cole Konrad make his first title defense against the season five default winner Eric Prindle. Looking to stay away from the power of Prindle the champ quickly took the fight to the ground and once there made short work of the challenger.

The night’s main card was concluded with the lightweight tournament final between former welterweights, Rick Hawn and Brent Weedman. Hawn once again showed his ever-improving boxing to out pointed Weedman before scoring a takedown late in the fight to seal the deal. Hawn will now face the Bellator lightweight champion Michael Chandler at a later date.

Before the main card took place though Bellator 70 brought the fans in attendance and watching on four preliminary bouts. It would close the night with two final bouts that unfortunately were “dark” and only seen by those live.

With the sixth season concluded, Bellator will return on June 22nd for their summer series.
