Add another Brazilian’s name to the fight card of UFC 134 “Rio” as submission specialist Paulo Thiago has agreed to take on David Mitchell. Thiago joins fellow Brazilians Anderson Silva, Mauricio Rua, Thiago Tavares, Luiz Cane, Edson Barboza and Maiquel Falcao currently scheduled to fight at the HSBC Arena in Rio de Janeiro.
Thiago (13-3) has two losses in a row against top welterweights Martin Kampmann and Diego Sanchez but holds wins over Mike Swick and Josh Koscheck. At an even 3-3 in the UFC, Thiago will look to get back in the win column in front of his countrymen.
Mitchell (11-1) suffered his first professional lose in his UFC debut against Anthony Waldburger at last September’s UFC Fight Night 22. Out of the Nor-Cal Fighting Alliance, Mitchell is also a submission specialist, holding nine career submission victories.
When these two fighters meet the obvious would be to expect a submission but as it always seems to happen, look for a standup fight at UFC 134.
