After calling out former light heavyweight champion, Lyoto Machida via twitter it was rumored that Chael Sonnen would return to action against Machida. Today those rumors were shot down and Verbal agreements have been put in place for Sonnen to face Brian Stann at UFC 136.

Sonnen (25-11-1) hasn’t fought since losing via submission to middleweight champion Anderson Silva at UFC 117 last August. Following the fight Sonnen was bombarded with multiple self-inflicted issues that has kept him out of the Octagon. The former WEC middleweight champion is now finally able to get back to fighting and will have a very tough test in his return.

Stann (11-3) is coming off back to back impressive TKO victories over Chris Leben and most recently, Jorge Santiago. Also a former WEC champion in the light heavyweight division, Stann moved down to middleweight following his UFC 109 loss to Phil Davis. He has since gone 3-0 in the division and has returned to the form that brought him to the top of the WEC 205 pound division.

UFC 136 will take place on October 8th from the Toyota Center in Houston, Texas and will coincide with the UFC Fan Expo.

Been an MMA fan since TUF season one (play catch up all the time) and the obsession started to grow like a weed and as the sport grows so does the love for the sport.
