UFC 146 Shuffle Continues

We all know that a surprise urine test that Alistair Overeem took came back with higher than allowed testosterone levels, and since then the UFC 146 card has been held hostage amid a series of rumors and questions.  Recently some of those questions got answered and here’s what we know as of now.

The supposed main event of Junior Dos Santos and Alistair Overeem went the way of the Dodo bird when the UFC decided regardless of tomorrow’s hearing with the Athletic Commission; they had to replace Overeem to market the event in the right manner.  After a lengthy and boisterous clamor for Mark Hunt to get the title shot, Frank Mir was named as the replacement, which seems a legitimate decision given his three fight winning streak.  That however left Cain Velasquez without an opponent.

Cain Velasquez wasn’t without an opponent for too long, as Antonio Silva got the nod and will be facing off against the former UFC Heavyweight champion.  It’s a huge fight and opportunity for Silva who will be making his UFC debut.  Antonio Silva lost via TKO in his last fight, against Daniel Cormier as part of the Strikeforce heavyweight Grand Prix.

UFC 146Roy Nelson was scheduled to face off with Antonio Silva so then he was left without an opponent.  Roy tweeted Saturday night that he was asked if he’d fight Cain to determine number one contender and said yes, leading many to speculate as to what was going on, but in the end, it was a fan who asked him, not the UFC and that fight would not be taking place.  However, just an hour ago, Dana White tweeted that Roy Nelson would be facing Gabe Gonzaga, so that piece of the puzzle is set.

All that remains now is Shane del Rosario, as he was supposed to meet Gonzaga.  There are a handful of candidates out there for him, but we’ll wait and see who the UFC names as his replacement.   Stay tuned to MMAValor.com for news on the ever changing UFC 146 card.
