Jacare Souza should get the next shot at Luke Rockhold

| August 26, 2012 | Reply

After a submission victory over Bristol Marunde (12-7) at Strikeforce: “Tate vs Rousey” back in March and a quick, first round knockout of Derek Brunson at Strikeforce: “Rousey vs Kaufman”, Jacare Souza (16-3) showed his fans once again why he was once the Strikeforce middleweight champion. With these two impressive victories back to back, it leaves us all asking the question, Who’s next for Jacare? Obviously the most logical answer is the same guy who took the belt from Jacare in the first place, the current Strikeforce middleweight champ Luke Rockhold (10-1).

Even Rockhold said he thinks the most logical fight for himself is Jacare. He went further to say, “I think we have unfinished business”. (Strikeforce: Souza vs Rockhold 2. “Unfinished Business”) Has a nice ring to it huh? Well Strikeforce president Scott Coker Said “They both want it” and “I think it will be an easy fight” (to make). Let’s hope it happens cause let’s be honest, the current Strikeforce middleweight division is not that deep with high-caliber talent.

There’s not too many fighters on the roster that Jacare wouldn’t probably steamroll, aside from a couple that you could make an argument for. Lorenz Larkin (13-0) maybe. Or Tim Kennedy (14-4), who just lost a unanimous decision to Rockhold back in July. Larkin has never had a shot at either Rockhold nor Jacare, so Maybe the winner of Jacare Souza vs Lorenz Larkin could then fight Rockhold for the title. But why, when Jacare has gone 2-0 since losing the belt and proven himself worthy of chance to regain the belt.

A Jacare vs Rockhold 2 bout seems the next logical choice, allowing Larkin one more middleweight fight under his belt before getting a shot at the belt. Should he win then he could fight the winner of Jacare vs Rockhold 2.
