Things started out early and a little slow today with the UFC on FUEL TV 6 from Macao, China. The first preliminary bout on Facebook began at 4:40am PT / 7:40am ET with seven consecutive decisions right up to the UFC on FUEL TV 6 co-main event. Just when it looked like the UFC was going to see an event full of decisions things turned around quickly in the last two fights.
Up until the end of the night it didn’t look promising for the “Fight Night Bonuses” but when it was all said and done, four fighters received $40k each.
Fight of the Night: Mac Danzig vs. Takanori Gomi
It was the sixth decision on the night but there were moments you thought the fight might be ending. Takanori Gomi looked really good in his sixth trip inside the Octagon but hand his hands full with Mac Danzig. Gomi displayed confident striking and was able to defend the tricky situations that Danzig put him in. Gomi earns his 34th career win and moved to 3-3 with the UFC.
Submission of the Night: Thiago Silva
Thiago Silva came into the UFC on FUEL TV 6 com-main event with only one career submission; he left though with two and a nice bonus check. It didn’t look as if Silva would even get a win today after losing the first two rounds against Stanislav Nedkov. He got clipped by Nedhov late in round two and it looked bad heading into the final round but the gas tank of Nedkov had a different idea. With nothing left Silva was able to time the predictable Nedkov and get the fight to the ground where he was able to submit the Bulgarian.
Knockout of the Night: Cung Le
The main event only lasted just over two minutes and wow did it end abruptly. The quickly Cung Le started out slow waiting for his opening and when Rich Franklin showed it to him the fight was over. It was a counter right hand to the jaw of the former champion and just like that, one punch, fight over.
While the UFC on FUEL TV 6 saw many decisions it was still a very entertaining card, early but entertaining.
