With Bellator still on summer vacation it was up to the UFC and its fighters to potentially alter this month's MMA fighter rankings. Since the last rankings came out there were three UFC events resulting in two new fighters breaking into their divisions top 5.
While domestic shores were quiet for MMA action this weekend, the UK MMA scene was in full swing with two high-profile shows. BAMMA 12 and Cage Warriors 52 created some issues for the MMA world as far as how to enjoy both shows simultaneously, but with laptops, TV's and tablets multi-tasking, we all got it done.
The first full week in February was filled with loads of MMA news. Fighters withdrew from fights, one was suspended for PED’s and several fights were announced. Let’s not forget there was Bellator 88 which crowned a new middleweight champion as well as one nasty knockout on The Ultimate Fighter 17.
This week in MMA saw the first TUF 17 fighter advance; Bellator opened its lightweight tournament and Jose Aldo defended his UFC featherweight title. But as you’ll see by the links in this week’s Independent link club, there was more to the week then just that.
Last night the British Association of Mixed Martial Arts (BAMMA) held its eleventh event and final one of the 2012 year with BAMMA 11. The event took place at the National Indoor Arena in Birmingham and was co-headlined by middleweight bouts between Jack Marshman and Xavier Foupa-Pokam and Alex Reid versus Sam Boo.
Last week was a slow week in MMA due to the holiday of giving thanks for what you've got. But just like all the other sports thing never completely shut down during holidays and despite limited events last week there were still some news.
Today BAMMA announced that middleweights Jack Marshman and Xavier Foupa-pokum would face each other in the BAMMA 11 main event on December 1st. Now with a main event in place, BAMMA 11 currently has 13 fights including a welterweight title fight and Lonsdale British lightweight title bout.
This week saw Bellator 78 and MFC 35, along with The Ultimate Fighter dominate our Friday night with MMA action. This coming week, even without the UFC holding an event will once again be stacked as Bellator, Resurrection Fighting Alliance, The Ultimate Fighter and the World Series of Fighting will all be holding events.
