After another Injury, Tony Ferguson gets his third opponent for UFC on FOX 3

| March 29, 2012 | Reply

The Tony Ferguson curse has struck once again, as it has been announced that Ferguson’s second scheduled opponent for the UFC on FOX 3, Thiago Tavares has also been forced to withdraw from his bout with Ferguson. Tony’s first scheduled opponent was Dennis Hallman, who was forced out the contest with Ferguson due to a pre-fight injury, and now that Tavares has suffered a similar situation, Michael Johnson has stepped up to face Tony at the upcoming UFC event.

This being the second UFC on Fox show appearance in a row for Johnson, puts the spotlight back on him, following his most recent victory over Shane Roller at the UFC on FOX 2 event, but Ferguson is on fire lately, which makes this a must watch fight for MMA fans. Johnson showed tremendous potential during his stint on TUF, but has yet to reach the upper echelon in his respected division. Ferguson, being a TUF winner, has gone a little further in his MMA career thus far, which could prompt Johnson to come into this bout like a man possessed.

Now that it seems like all fighters that hover below the upper shelf are potentially faced with a “perform well, or get released” scenario, the need to make your presence known, especially in the UFC lightweight division, has become a prerequisite, if one is to stay competitive on the grandest stage in all of MMA. The UFC on Fox 3 event is scheduled for May 5th, in East Rutherford, New Jersey.
