Pat Curran is a pocket-sized rock’em sock’em robot. The Bellator 145 pound kingpin earned his title by destroying Joe Warren at Bellator 60. Patricio “Pitbull” Freire is 17-1 and his lone loss was a disputed split decision loss to former champion Joe Warren. When these two combustible agents meet on August 24th, an MMA explosion is the sure fire result.
Pat Curran is part of the backbone of Bellator. A two time tournament winner and current Featherweight champion, he’s been devastating in his time within the Bellator promotion. He’s 7-1 inside Bellator, the lone loss coming to former Lightweight champion Eddie Alvarez. He trains with fellow MMA fighter and cousin Jeff Curran in his home state of Illinois. He’s well rounded, having won five fights by TKO, five fights by submission and seven by decision.
Well rounded also fits Patricio Freire who has six TKOs, seven submissions and 4 decisions in his 17victories. Another similarity is that Patricio trains with a relative who fights. He trains with his brother, Patricky Freire, a fellow combatant under the Bellator umbrella. Patricio has fast hands, and solid submissions, as he trains with the Nogueira brothers at the fabled Blackhouse gym.
Niether fightr will shy away from contact, and are going to slug it out. Curran has good wrestling, but he has to be careful of submissions from Freire if he takes him down. It should be a back and forth contest that could result in a Bellator classic. It will be tough to top the amazing clash Eddie Alvarez and Michael Chandler had, but these two could give it a run.
You’ll have to wait until August 24th for this championship clash, and as yet the location hasn’t been announced. When it is, we’ll have it for you at www.mmavalor.com
