Scrambling to fill the void left by both Anderson Silva and Brock Lesnar pulling out of the main event for UFC 108. The UFC officially announced today the Main event will be Antonio Rodrigo Nogueria (32-5-1) vs. Cain Velasquez (7-0). The Co-main event will remain Rashad Evans vs. Thiago Silva. Feeling pressure to fill the spot since tickets were scheduled to go on sale this week the heavyweight title contenders match was booked.

I like the match up and also like the main event status it’s given. Nogueira is a legend in the sport and coming off the huge win over Randy Couture at UFC 102 wants a title shot. Velasquez recently defeated Ben Rothwell at UFC 104 and Cheick Kongo at UFC 99 as has positioned himself amongst the top heavyweights. The winner of this fight will put themselves in line to face the winner of Lesnar vs. Carwin if it ever happens. He could also possibly face Carwin for an interim title should Lesnar be sidelined for a long period of time. Either way though the winner between Nogueira and Velasquez will be worthy of a title shot in the heavyweight division.

Tickets for UFC 108 go on sale thuesday for fight club members, Friday for newsletter members and Saturday to the general public.
