UFC Live 6 Cruz vs. Johnson Bold Predictions

| September 29, 2011 | 1 Reply

The UFC hits the Versus airways once again for another solid free card and as a bonus, the card is headlined with a title fight. This Saturday Oct. 1, 2011, from the Verizon Center, in Washington D.C. Dominick Cruz will make his fourth bantamweight title against Demetrious Johnson.

Since Urijah Faber handed Cruz (18-1) his only professional loss in his WEC debut, Cruz has won nine in a row including a unanimous decision win over Faber his last time out. The unorthodox style of Cruz has given every opponent problems and the task of solving that style now falls on the “Mighty Mouse”. Johnson (9-1) has won his last four bouts since losing a unanimous decision against Brad Pickett in his WEC debut.

The rest of the UFC Live 6 main card has two stylistic bouts and one rematch that will hopefully settle the first fights controversy.

Kickboxer’s Pat Barry (6-3) and the one foot taller Stefan Struve (21-5) will kick it out in hopes to get back in the win column, while avoiding a losing streak. Anthony Johnson (9-3) will hope to make-weight for the third fight on a row when he takes on Charlie Brenneman (14-2). While both have a wrestling background, Brenneman will be the stronger of the two but Johnson has the edge in the striking. Finally Mac Danzig (20-8-1) gets his chance to avenge the controversial los he suffered at UFC 115 to Matt Wiman (13-6). Their first fight was stopped by the referee who though Danzig had went to sleep from a guillotine choke, which obviously wasn’t the case when Danzig immediately protested the stoppage. The two will look for a clean finish to put the controversy behind them.

The title says bold predictions so………

135 lbs.: Dominick Cruz will defeat Demetrious Johnson by Unanimous Decision (49-46, 48-47, 48-47)

The first round will tell you everything you need to know about how this fight will play out. If Johnson cannot get a takedown on the champ it’s going to be a long night for the challenger. Cruz hasn’t shown the knockout power to put away Johnson but after a competitive start to the fight, the champion takes over wins on the scorecards for the 11th time.

170 lbs.: Charlie Brenneman will defeat Anthony Johnson by 2nd rd. submission (Rear Naked Choke)

Brenneman will get that takedown against Johnson, that’s a given but he’ll need to be careful to not have his lights turned out while doing it. After a close opening round Brenneman will get the takedown and eventually take the back on Johnson on his way to checking him out.

155 lbs.: Matt Wiman will defeat Mac Danzig by Unanimous Decision (29-28, 29-28, 30-27)

Danzig will make sure not to make the same mistakes as last time and should the fight go to the ground he will quickly get back up. Thing is this Wiman will get it done enough times to win the rounds a walk away 2-0 against Danzig.

StruveVBarry 225x300 UFC Live 6 Cruz vs. Johnson Bold Predictions

Can you say reach advantage?

265 lbs.: Stefan Struve will defeat Pat Barry by 1st round submission (Arm Triangle)

As much as we’d all like to see these two stand and kick it, that’s just not going to happen. The Dutchman will use his length to keep Barry on the way outside which will make him force him inside, opening himself up for a takedown. Once on the ground Barry will look like a fish out of the water and quickly find he’s unable to breathe.

Preliminary card (May not be broadcast):

135 lbs.: Mike Easton vs. Byron Bloodworth – Mike Easton by Submission

155 lbs.: Michael Johnson vs. Paul Sass – Michael Johnson by Unanimous Decision

155 lbs.: Yves Edwards vs. Rafaello Oliveira – Yves Edwards by KO

155 lbs.: Shane Roller vs. TJ Grant – Shane Roller by Unanimous Decision

170 lbs.: Josh Neer vs. Keith Wisniewski – Keith Wisniewski by Split Decision

135 lbs.: Walel Watson vs. Joseph Sandoval – Joseph Sandoval by TKO
