Tonight the world witnessed one of the best fights of the year Dustin Poirier and “The Korean Zombie” Chan Sung Jung went four round in the main event of the UFC on FUEL TV 3. The fight would end a very solid night of fights that started on Facebook with six preliminary bouts before fans moved to FUEL TV for six more fights on the main card.
The star of the show was, of course, Chan Sung Jung, the Korean Zombie. Should this surprise you, then you haven’t been paying attention for the last few years. Fans have been treated to so many great fights involving the Zombie that it’s getting hard to keep track of them all.
In every fight of the Zombie’s UFC career, there seems to be one constant and it was repeated once again tonight, in Fairfax, VA. Whether or not you start the night pulling for him, you will be cheering for him by the end of the night.
The crowd was completely split down the middle during the fighter introductions. Half the crowd, which included an impressive Korean contingent, was chanting “Zombie, Zombie”, while the other half were chanting “USA, USA”. Ok there was that one guy that had consumed one too many cold adult beverages that kept chanting “Beer Man, Beer man” but he doesn’t count.
What took place at UFC on Fuel TV 3 was a fight that went completely back and forth for 16 minutes between Dustin Poirier and the Zombie, until Jung was able to lock in a choke just past the one minute mark of round 4. What the fans may not have been able to comprehend at home was how the partisan crowd became one voice for The Korean Zombie as he jumped up on the cage to celebrate his Fight of the Night performance.
Up next for the Korean Zombie very well may be against the winner of the Jose’ Aldo vs. Eric Koch Featherweight Title fight at UFC 149, however, whomever it’s against you can be sure that by the end of that fight, everyone will be cheering for the Zombie.
