On a television show that hits nearly 100 million homes that has stretched out nearly 13 seasons, launching the sport into the mainstream, they bring exciting news once again. The coaches for the 13th season of the Ultimate Fighter that will feature welterweight fighters will be none other than former heavyweight champion Brock Lesnar and Junior Dos Santos.
After a search that seemed to take forever, Dana White today finally announced that these two powerhouse heavyweight fighters will coach the latest season of the reality show. Many names were rumored and written about but the UFC pulled a fast one with this matchup.
Brock Lesnar (5-2 MMA) had one of the most impressive heavyweight title runs and for being relatively new to the sport is considered one of the most dangerous men ever to walk into the cage. There hasn’t been a fighter in the cage able to not be taken down by Lesnar and his wrestling is some of the best in the sport. Lesnar has shown flaws in his game but has also shown a new breed of heavyweight fighter with huge power and wrestling dominance. Having fought an all-star list of UFC heavyweight, Lesnar will add another top name to that list with Dos Santos.
Junior Dos Santos (12-1 MMA) is a Nogueria brown belt with superior grappling and technical striking. He is coming off some very impressive wins and was on deck to face Cain Velasquez for the heavyweight title but due to injury will be fighting Lesnar after The Ultimate Fighter finale. He has impressive wins over Strikeforce’s Fabricio Werdum, and Knockouts over Yvel, Gonzaga, and Mirko Cro Cop. He trains with some of the best Brazilian fighters in the world and could be seen alongside the Nogueria’s and Anderson Silva this season.
The matchup will show where both stand in the Heavyweight rankings and how they might fare against Cain Velasquez in his return from injury. The fighter can expect two very focused and hard training coaches who will definitely show Welterweights how to make it to the big show. The Ultimate Fighter Season 13 debuts on March 30th live on Spike TV and should become the most anticipated TUF season to date.
